Unpacking the Drama Curriculum

This curriculum unpacking resource consists of eight A3 colour-coded posters that unpack each level of the New Zealand Curriculum, along with an A4 document suggesting some possible teaching and learning, performance/assessment opportunities and language that you could use in your reporting, feedback/feedward. The writers have linked in resources from the Whakaari Aotearoa Drama New Zealand website to aid you in your teaching, learning and planning.

The purpose of this resource is to support early-career teachers in a curriculum first approach to planning, teaching, performance, assessment and reporting.

The posters explain each of the Drama Achievement Objectives and describes what students should be demonstrating at the top, middle and bottom of the curriculum level. The examples provided are not exhaustive; they are suggestions or possibilities.

Because every school is different, a blank template in green has been provided, so you can create your own unpacking posters that suit your strengths as a teacher and centre your students' interests.

Please print in A3 to ensure readability.

Please note: While a new curriculum will be rolled out in the coming years, the teaching and learning encompassed in these resources remains relevant and can be adapted in the future.
