Live Theatre Web Series

This web series, created with the support of Networks of Expertise, explores how ākonga and kaiako see, engage with and explore live theatre in the classroom. Through the series you will find interesting conversations with artists and theatre companies discussing on how we engage with live theatre and bring it to life in the classroom. You will also be able to access advice and framing on teaching, learning and assessment. Some webisodes could be used in the classroom with students and some, you will want to access when doing your own planning.

Each episode is accompanied by a PDF summary of what is covered, enabling you to hone in on information that is most relevant and useful to you.

Webisode 1: In Conversation with Katie Wolfe

A conversation with Katie Wolfe, Tashiana Tarawa and Sam Phillips from Auckland Theatre Company. This episode was made in conjunction with Auckland Theatre Company and support from Networks of Expertise.

Webisode 2: Engaging with a Theatre Company - A Conversation with Auckland Theatre Company

Aotearoa New Zealand has amazing theatre companies doing exceptional work; Red Leap, Massive Theatre Company, Circa, The Court, Silo Theatre Company to name a few. We also have exceptional directors, creative teams and smaller companies producing performances in both large and small regions of the country. This conversation with Auckland Theatre Company is an example of how ākonga and kaiako engage with a theatre company and the benefits of including Live Theatre in your teaching, learning and assessment programmes.

Important Note: While this conversation may feel specific to Auckland kaiako, the wider conversation about the purpose of seeing live theatre and the structure of the way ATC engages with ākonga/kaiako/teachers could be a model for how you engage with viewing theatre in your own classrooms. Please see the supporting "Live Theatre Planning" PDF for ideas.
