Culture Matters is a report prepared for the Ministry of Research, Science and Technology by John Drummond, Geoff Kearsley and Rob Lawson University of Otago 2008. This report highlights the need for the  Ministry of Education to be more closely involved in the development of the Arts in Education in order to develop New Zealand’s Creative Industries. A lack of focus on the development of  quality Teacher Training programmes in the Arts is reported. The close relationship that exists between arts and culture in New Zealand and the need to realign local and central government funding policies to reflect this relationship is also highlighted.
