UNFINISHED BUSINESS is a new play by Dr by Paul Baker. The grandly dysfunctional Churchill family has always written its own history. Anticipation of the eighty eight year old Sir Winston’s death, prompts a rapid re-write, during one turbulent family luncheon. The host, Randolph, wants to know why his father betrayed him during the war and then abandoned him. His sister, the recently and regularly bereaved Sarah, publicizes new and past relationships, all spectacularly unsuitable. His mother, Lady Clementine is goaded into spilling a lifetime’s carefully hoarded beans. Randolph’s research assistant, Dr Stephen Jenkins, pursues a subversive historical agenda of his own regarding the accuracy of Winston’s war memoirs. New understandings are formed about the truth – family and national – and all its uses.
