ATC Theatre Blog: Pre Production Week Period
Probably the biggest eye opener for me as an HOD of Drama who has staged many productions was how detailed and specific (of military precision comes to mind) the A3 production week schedule for “The Importance of Being Earnest” was. This schedule includes the delivery details to the loading bay days before pack in and then it lists the schedule for each day on an almost hour by hour rotation. The schedule highlights two things, one that there is a huge level of prior knowledge/experience at doing this and two there are enormously tight frames between packing in on a Sunday morning and a first public performance on the Thursday evening.
To give an idea, Sunday which is entirely technical, reads 8:00 -15:00 Set build. 12:00 – 15:00 Circle rail rig, Side Lighting Rig OP and cabling. 15:00-18:00 Side lighting Rig PS, Soft Patching, 15:00-18:00 Furniture deliveries. 16:00 – 19:00 Stage Spike. 19:00- 22:00 Lighting Focus. Each day is like this with contingency slots scheduled in for any unexpected variables.
