Event and Entertainment Technologies

Introduction to the Drama NZ Events and Entertainment Technologies Professional Learning Group.

As Performing Arts Technology Standards were changing to the more inclusive Event and Entertainment Technology standards, Drama New Zealand reached out to members interested in doing some professional learning in the Technologies area.

As part of our Drama New Zealand Networks of Expertise projects we offered the opportunity for a professional learning community initiative, initally under the mentorship of Kim Bonnington and laterly Annette Thomson.

This opportunity was taken up by a group of teachers in the Canterbury Region who wanted to explore their practice and the way they taught and assessed Entertainment Technologies in their classrooms. The group led by Chris Cheeseman consisted of Joanne Clark, Samantha  Boyce-Da Cruz, Nartarsha Ikiua, and Dave Millar.

We explored the design process and resources needed to communicate the technology processes to our students. We also explored how to work alongside the industry to create resources for our Drama NZ community.

During the course of the project the Unit Standards have changed and will be relaunched in 2022.  While the resources remain useful for the tasks the assessment schedules and performance criteria marking schedules will be updated as the new Standards go online.

Other Drama NZ creatives may contribute to this set of resources over time. 

We want to see a world where the Event and Entertainment Technologies are taught to all students across the curricular, at all levels. A world where we build students' vocabulary and their knowledge when describing design and techniques used in Theatre and Performance building events.
