What is a regional branch?

Drama New Zealand is the subject association for Drama in Education throughout New Zealand.

The Association is run with a two tier system

The Association has a constitution we are governed by.

A regional branch helps support the association be the actualisation of our objectives within their region.

 

What does a regional branch do?

The Branch Committee:

  • Creates opportunities for Moderation and Marking Gatherings

  • Creates opportunities for Drama within the Region

  • Creates Professional Development / Workshops

  • Hosts regional showings / collaborations / festivals

  • Manages School Visits / Networking

  • Manages Regional Projects and Initiatives

  • Meets annually for an Annual General Meeting to elect regional officers.

  • Supports Local Artists and Arts based companies

 

How does the National Executive support Regional Branches?

  • Providing an annual National Conference Providing an annual National Conference

  • National Regional Rep Co-ordinator

  • Regular Regional Rep meetings to brainstorm and share ideas

  • Regional Rep Facebook Group

  • Drama NZ Newsletter

  • Providing Professional Development / networking ideas along with templates and planning suggestions and guidelines

  • Providing updates of regional membership

  • Region page of website

  • Capitalisation paid to boost regional finances

  • Branch Operational Guidance / Support

  • Feedback on National issues and advocacy

  • Access to professional advice & guidance

 

What are the Branch Admin and Tasks?

To enable the branch to run efficiently the branch committee:

  • Meet for administrative /planning meetings - minimum two per year including AGM as per constitution

  • Maintain a Branch Bank Account

  • Maintain a Branch website

  • Maintain a Regional Facebook group

  • Organise regular networking / sharing / Professional Development / workshops for both Branch members and non members to cater for all levels i.e. Primary, Intermediate, Secondary

  • Hold an Annual Annual General Meeting for the election of Officers

  • Maintain a regional database of arts educators

  • Assist with promoting membership and building regional numbers

  • Plan cluster moderation and marking meetings

  • Provide information for the Regional Branch page on the National website

  • Provide information for the Regional Branch area in email newsletter

  • Provide regional information for national executive

  • Promote National initiatives i.e. National Conference

  • Support regional members through advocacy, mentoring, buddy system, social gatherings etc.

  • Submits Annual Minutes and accounts to the National Executive (by end of Dec) to access capitulation from the National Account

  • Build and maintain relationships with local Associate and Industry members

 

What does the branch executive look like?

The executive officers for each branch must include but are not limited to:

  • Chairperson:  calls meetings, writes agenda and facilitates meetings

  • Secretary:  takes minutes, deals with inward and outward correspondence

  • Treasurer:  looks after regional accounts including invoicing for workshops and gatherings

  • Regional Rep: reports back to National Regional Coordinator on the happenings on the Region (may double with one of the roles above)

  • Primary Rep: represents the Primary members within the region

  • Committee: may include industry, social media/marketing.

To a maximum of nine

If the Branch is geographically challenged – the branch may be split into sub branches with leaders in each area who make up the Branch committee
