Students are encouraged to see themselves reflected in this story and make connections with their own history. The story of the Kiwis can be linked to the wider historical context of Aotearoa NZ and local community contexts. 

The themes covered in this unit include: Migration, Identity, Negotiation and Treaties. Students are asked to consider different perspectives, values and motivations. 

This unit is suitable for all levels of the primary curriculum Years 0-8. 

The context and content are driven by the interests of the age group of the ākonga and the community of learners.
